In two days, it's my birthday. I didn't used to be excited for that day. I used to focus on the Juneteenth significance of the day and ignore the birthday side. And it's a very important aspect of the day. Juneteenth commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in 1865. That's not to say that I dislike getting older or didn't celebrate. On one birthday, I got my first tattoo. On another, I went skydiving. But this year, I'm actually excited and I can hardly wait for my birthday. As you know, I haven't felt the greatest for months. (The medicine is beginning to work but adjusting doses and trying to get just the right mix is a juggling act.) But I need a break! Tomorrow night, I get to pack an overnight bag. To where? I don't know. That's the fun part. I've been given directions on the type of clothes to bring (casual, dressy, etc.). I'm to take the train downtown to meet Ben after work and we'll leave from there. I have no idea what we are doing but I know it will be the most perfect birthday. Do you know why? Because my husband listens to me. He hears things I don't even realize I have said out loud.
I can't wait to tell you all about it (well, parts of it because we are still newlyweds! It's only been 102 days you know!)
