On the way home, we stopped at the Tillamook Forest Center. Ben and I had previously stopped there after my fairytale princess birthday but it was right before they closed for the day. We were looking forward to exploring further and sharing with Mom & Dad. We picked the right day- it was the 77th anniversary of the Tillamook Burn so there was lots of special activities. This volunteer explained the areas affected by the fires. It was actually quite interesting!
I don't remember exactly what Dad and Mom were looking at but it had something to do with the rings in trees and how a tree's age is determined.
Dad whispered to Smokey that he was a very lucky bear! Smokey told him that he could volunteer to be Smokey next summer and enjoy the fringe benefits too!
Outside the Center was the Wilson River. It was a beautiful day and there were lots of people enjoying the sun along the banks of the river.
We watched a short film called Legacy of Fire which told the story of the Tillamook Burn through the words of people who were personally involved in fire fighting and forest restoration. It was really good. Time for our next adventure!
Awwwww how sweet!
