Another beach event!

A few days later, we headed back to the beach so that I could attend the Oregon Association of Child Care Directors Spring Conference. This year, it was located at Agate Beach just a short distance down the road from Depoe Bay at the Agate Beach Inn. We arrived Wednesday afternoon and checked in shortly before events began Wednesday night. Ben kept himself amused by feeding the seagulls outside our room. (His goal was really just to relax and enjoy himself and I'm pretty sure he did just that. Besides, the room had extended cable and since we cut out that service, it's a treat to watch TV and see all the shows we haven't seen the last 15 months!) There was a lot of fog but I thought this was a cool picture of the Yaquina Lighthouse. I think we used up some of our sun last weekend but if I have to be in a conference, I would rather it not be beautiful outside!
Friday afternoon, after the tsunami warning was lifted, we went for a walk on the beach. This was a poignant walk for me and I spent time praying for the Japanese people and all those who had lost their lives in the ensuing tsunami. We were very lucky that we didn't have to evacuate that morning and that the area we were in was not really affected. But it was an eery feeling as the waves came way in and went way out all day long. It was like high tide and low tide every half hour or so. It seemed difficult to accept that the ocean I love so much could bring such destruction with it. My prayers are still with them as they deal with this disaster and its aftermath.
Ben took a lot of pictures of undisturbed nature this day and I wanted to share a few with you. So pretty...
some driftwood and grass- this area was quite dry despite the ocean's close proximity.
This tree looked like it was ready to topple over the side of the cliff any minute. In hind sight, he probably shouldn't have stood so close underneath it but he was a healthy distance away just in case.I had forgotten my boots this trip but I had to walk in the water anyway. But it was so cold that I had to stop and put my shoes back on. I just love this picture. I guess his thoughts were in a similar place as mine this day. How can you not help but stop and send up a prayer?
I had picked up my conference umbrella on the way to the beach and Ben decided to clown around. It was sprinkling a little bit but not enough to warrant an umbrella! And besides, it was so windy, it barely helped. But isn't he cute?!
One last nature picture. I thought this one was cool too!
This last picture is for my Daddy. Dad, he is still making me walk soooooo far to the parked car! Oh well, he still cooks for me too so I guess it's a good trade off even though I had to use a zoom so you could even see the car!

Another successful trip to the beach even though it was a sobering one with the tsunami warning.
