A beach anniversary

Ben knows how much I love the beach (even though he doesn't understand yet how it can be a beautiful day on the Oregon Coast if you have to wear a heavy coat and gloves when you walk on the beach!) So in early December, he planned that we would spend our anniversary weekend at Depoe Bay. He got a great Groupon for the Harbor Lights Inn and our hosts Bob and Beni were very sweet. Bob made us yummy breakfasts each morning before we headed off to explore all around us.
These starfish were on one of the tables in the "living room". They caught my eye because they were so colorful!
This was the view from our balcony. The harbor was pretty quiet when we got there on Friday but Saturday and Sunday there were a number of boats going in and out. As you can see, it was mostly clear, no rain and very pretty weather.
Friday evening, we went to Gracie's Sea Hag where I had fried oysters (my favorite) and Ben had fish and chips. It was quite yummy!
I put all these next pictures up because they lead to something funny! Ben was standing on this rock... the tide went out...
it came back in a little but he wasn't worried because he had rubber boots on...
and then it came in with a vengeance and he got soaked! He wouldn't let me post the picture of his pants but imagine this... there is a scene in Billy Madison when the class is on a field trip and one of the students has an accident (remember this?) and Billy pours water on his pants and tells the others that everyone pees their pants sometimes and they are still cool... well, let's just say that Ben looked cool!
So cool was he that he had to sun himself on some rocks so that his pants would dry quicker. See, it's a beautiful day when the sun is out and you can enjoy it's warmth!

I am fascinated by the water and the waves and the foam and the surf. I could watch and listen to it for hours. I find it to be so relaxing and peaceful and I always feel refreshed when I've been to the beach. This weekend was no exception! I was wet up to my knees but it didn't matter to me. That's half the fun!
I don't know if you can tell from this picture (make it bigger) but there was a lot of sea foam on the beach this day. I like to pretend that it is Bubble Bath Day in Heaven! Isn't that a much better thought than what it really is?
As usual, my dare devil husband is ignoring signs and walking on the wild side!
At my pleadings, he went the other way where it was not restricted. Isn't this a beautiful day? We were so glad to have the rain stay away!
This was at the Depoe Bay Whale Watching house. If you look far out into the horizon, sometimes you can see blow spouts. This day there were none that I could see but the volunteer said they had spotted a pod of whales a couple of days earlier.
This day was really windy (gusts up to 30 mph) but when you are at the beach, you can't worry about what your hair looks like! But man, do I need a hair cut, lol!!
We forgot to bring the tripod so we had to set the camera on the only rail available. Usually we can find someone to take a picture for us but not today.
The Captain of the Ship! Ahoy there mates- steady as she goes! We also wandered down to Agate Beach. Part of the beach was full of tiny pebbles. They were beautiful!
More sea foam and pebbles...
It seemed like we just got started and it was time to go to dinner. We made reservations at Tidal Raves because of the food and the view at sunset. We got a great window table in the corner so it was nice and romantic.
As I was putting this entry together, I realized that we didn't ask to have the wait staff take our picture together. I don't know what we were thinking!
I got to wear the earrings I wore for our wedding but I forgot my pearls. I told Ben that I was just going to wear them one day just to be able to wear them. They are so pretty. (Maybe for our school's auction...)
Our reservation was set for 15 minutes before sunset. The view from the windows was spectacular!
The clouds made the colors just incredible. And there was just enough of a break in them to watch as the sun sunk into the ocean. Dang, God did such an amazing job when he created this earth for us. Now if we can just take care of it properly.
This picture is my favorite one that Ben took this night. The colors were brilliant and they actually translated to film. WOW!
This was in the living room at the Harbor Lights Inn.
Happy Second Anniversary Benjamin!
